New Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

In
Chevrolet they said: "Chevrolet's goal with the new ZR1 is
to show what an American super car can deliver", and ZR1
delivers, no doubt about it.
There are many
beautiful cars that we want to buy or to sit in it, just for
the moment. Be it big or small, business or town class, for
managers or not, some models have that ability to leave us
standing there and staring while our gentler part slowly
ascend into a fury.I must admit at the beginning that this
article may be little biased because Chevrolet Corvette is
The Car for me, with all respect to other cars (such as
Cadillac which on No2 on my personal top list, and Porsche
slightly behind at No2). While Vesna loves big and strong
vehicles, like Mercedes ML, I find Corvette simply
irresistible. There is something in design, look, and spirit
that just captured me. That's way I wasn't surprised when
someone give one million dollar like in the case of "double-o-three"
(E53F001003, to be more precise).
I also must admit that
my corvette-attention shifts from time to time and the blame
is on the manufacturer. They are guilty for designing more
beautiful and potent models. The newly introduced Corvette
ZR1 is an example of a perfect melt of design and technology.

The new Corvette ZR1 has an 6.2L V-8 engine that delivers
620 horsepower (or 462 kW, if you like) and torque of 823 Nm.
The power is transmitted to wheels via six-speed manual
transmission that is the only logical choice; it would be
sin to put an automatic near this engine. The tyres will be
burning on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels and those
are the tyres that Michelin developed specifically for ZR1.
That beast can be stopped (why would I want to stop Corvette?
OK, maybe there are few situations...) with carbon-ceramic
disc brakes: 394 millimetres in the front and 380
millimetres in the back (for our American friend that's
15.5-inch and 15-inch, respectively).
There are some other amenities like Magnetic Selective Ride
Control, carbon-fibre front fenders, carbon-fibre hood, or
head-up display that shows numbers up to 370 km/h (220-mph),
but I leave them to you to discover.
The
new engine named LS9 is a jewel in a jewel. It has Roots
supercharger with four-lobe rotor, and new cooling systems,
and all that results in great torque at lower rotation, and
constant power in the whole range up to 6,600 rpm. The LS9
is assembled by hand. We should mention twin-disc clutch
system that also brings some good things. First, since we
have two discs here so the torque is spread on two discs (read:
larger area), and that contribute to better heat dissipation,
longer life of the clutch and smoother shifting.
